The 2008 Housing Regeneration Bill outlined the Government’s commitments to provide ‘Green’ homes in mixed and sustainable communities. Resultantly Civic City will be aiming for a high start rating based upon the 2008 Code for Sustainable Homes (produced by CLG).
As an intrinsic element of the build, the developments will contain: natural ventilation, improved insulation, aluminium framing, rainwater harvestings, offsite construction and minimal foundations. As well as being ecologically sound, this will also minimise the maintenance costs of the buildings, a cost reflected both to management and end-users respectively.
As well as seeking to be environmentally sustainable during the build phase, it is of key importance that the homes promote environmentally sustainable lifestyles once completed. This will include the provision of secure bicycle storage and provision of household recycling facilities, as well as ‘green technologies’ lowering total carbon footprint of the building.
